Overt Channel at Right of Boom 2024.
For the second year in a row, Overt Channel was present at the Right of Boom conference. This year, the conference took place at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Nearly 800 attendees from the MSP and MSSP space were in attendance. This year’s keynote speaker was Brent Gleeson, former Navy Seal and currently a 2x bestselling author and leadership consultant.
A Surprise Win
At the pre-day event held on Wednesday, a “reverse capture the flag” competition was held during the presentation held by engineers from Todyl’s security operation center (SOC). Teams were assigned three tasks to investigate hacker activity captured in the security information and events management system (SIEM).
Overt’s owner, Bart Holzer, was a member of the winning team!

Wait… what is “boom?”
Slang borrowed from the military, the term “boom” is used to describe the moment an attack succeeds. The period of time immediately following the “boom” is considered to be “right of boom.” In the cybersecurity world, this is the period of incident response (IR), when teams attempt to block, mitigate, and recover from a cyberattack.
Right of Boom, the organization
The folks behind the Right of Boom organization and related conference all come from managed service provider (MSP) backgrounds. They claim that Right of Boom is the largest vendor-agnostic security conference of its kind. The focus of the conference is to educate and empower security practitioners within MSP and MSSPs:
Mission of Right of Boom
Right of Boom events is purpose-built to educate & enable MSP/MSSPs to prepare for, endure and survive the inevitable “Boom” in either their or their client’s business. Our goal is to build successful, Cyber Resilient businesses. Cyber Resilience is the ability to operate during an adverse incident, with minimal impact to your and your client’s businesses.
