Overt Channel welcomes Joel Schafer to the team.
We are pleased to announce that Joel Schafer has joined Overt Channel. Joel brings a wealth of knowledge in information security and compliance along with proven leadership and management skills to the Overt team.
The future for Overt and Joel is an exciting one. Bart Holzer, owner of Overt, says, “Bringing on Joel is a real coup for our company. Joel will take the lead on several of Overt’s service offerings, including vulnerability management and penetration testing. He will also spearhead compliance initiatives specializing in supporting clients with CMMC requirements. Joel focuses on the processes of a comprehensive compliance strategy. When asked about his interest in compliance, Joel replied, “I don’t know who coined this, but one thing I’ve always said, and will never stop saying is ‘Security is a process, not a product.‘ It simply cannot be bought.”
Joel will also serve as a fractional executive to key clients in the role of virtual Chief Information Security Officer (vCISO).

Joel ‘s passion for information security started at a very young age after being introduced to hacking and cracking. He continued to pursue his passion and acquired his first penetration testing certification at the age of 17. After serving in the United States Army, Joel began building his technical skillset in network administration, engineering, and architecture, where he worked with top tier government contractors in the defense industrial base and other agencies. As Director of Information Technology, Joel honed his leadership and program management skills while building cross-functional teams. Joel managed multiple high-impact incidents, with high-profile clients, which contributed to his expertise in incident response and incident handling. His most recent role was as Director of Information Security at a premier consulting firm where he was responsible for building an information security line of business from the ground up.
